What Is Considered a Dental Emergency?

Dentist

It is good practice to treat dental and oral problems as soon as possible. However, some situations may require immediate attention. We never think it would happen to us, but an accident may occur where a tooth is knocked out or a tooth abscess is suddenly causing you sleepless nights.

It is important to know when a dental problem needs immediate attention and how to prepare for it when it happens. These situations can often be traumatic and stressful – Rockingham Dental Centre provides emergency dental services, to keep you as comfortable as possible.

What Are Dental Emergencies?

Dental emergencies are dental issues that need immediate attention and most commonly involve bleeding, excessive pain, or possible tooth loss.

Signs That You Need Emergency Dental Care:

Bleeding

If your gums are bleeding excessively, you have a bleeding ulcer or you are experiencing excessive bleeding post-oral surgery, seek immediate dental care.

Extreme Pain

Cavities can cause extreme pain in your mouth, and consuming certain foods or drinks can aggravate this. Try rinsing your mouth with lukewarm salt water and flossing in case anything might be stuck between the teeth. If the pain doesn’t subside, or you notice there is swelling, you might need an emergency dental checkup.

Knocked-Out Teeth

Accidents happen when a tooth or teeth can be knocked out. This will no doubt cause much discomfort and pain and you will need to get to the dentist as soon as possible. Contact your dentist to find out the best way to proceed. If you still have the tooth, place it in a glass of milk and take it with you to the dentist.
