How often do you really need to go to the dentist?

There are people who love visiting the dentist often, while others are afraid of getting dental treatment. Let us answer a common question involving oral health: How often do you really need to go to the dentist?

Dental health is a responsibility

Did you know there are dental illnesses that could be fatal? Before they even get worse, prevent oral illness from happening to you. One of the best strategies to avoid these is to ensure you and your children visit your dentist often. But how frequent?

The teeth and gums may house plaques, colourless substances that may eat away the outer layer of the teeth known as the enamel. Plaques also cause cavities. Being unable to get rid of these plaques, they may grow to tartar which causes gum disease.

Health conditions like diabetes and bacterial infection affect dental health. If you find these conditions with you, it is important that you visit the dental clinic more often. Pregnant women and smokers are also prone to problems with dental health.

Twice a year – that’s how often

How often does one need to go to the dentist? Twice a year is the recommended frequency of dental visits. Yet, the schedule can change during your lifetime.

Brushing your teeth at least twice a day is part of taking care of your teeth. If the dentist doesn’t see any problem, then they may lengthen the time between visits. You may be given medicines or advice on how to manage your oral health better – and that includes what foods to avoid and what habits to break. Also, make sure to use mouthguards while playing contact sports to avoid chipping or damaging teeth, purchased from your dentists.

Dental care is just as important as caring for your overall health and well-being. Contact your dental clinic about your appointment with the dentist.
